Fakatselis brings her mystical sensibility to her observable reality: for example, here, the notion of forest is not represented by figurative elements, such as individual trees, but rather encompasses a transcendent space of light and shadow, shifting perspectives and dynamic paint that is brushed, washed over and layered on the surface of the canvas. Drawing inspiration from her photographs of light and shadow filtering through the leaves and trees surrounding the property where her studio sits, Fakatselis has created a series of colorful and vibrant abstract works that convey the verdant fertility of her surroundings and invoke vitality and abundance. Through vivid patterns and hypnotic bursts of color, these works are homages to the expansive typography of this landscape: its ocean, jungle, beaches and skies.
